Description
The primary purpose of the volunteer is to assist with maintaining waiting areas, stocking supplies, transporting patients, and clerical duties.
- Perform duties in a courteous, friendly manner that fosters superior customer service.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
- Confidentiality is of utmost importance. Any information pertaining to a patient, his records, condition, family, and fellow employees must be kept confidential. Such information must be communicated in a professional manner and only when deemed appropriate by staff.
- Volunteers must have a clear understanding of patients’ rights.
- Observe all safety and health regulations and work in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the medical center. Report unsafe acts/conditions and injuries to supervisor promptly.
DUTIES:
1) Manage the refreshment station, waiting room/front lobby area.
2) Fill refreshments and supplies when needed.
3) Transport patients to and from the Cancer Center.
4) Stock exam rooms.
5) Prepare packets (chemo and patient navigation information packets)
6) Prepare office mailings.
7) Run errands.
8) Utilize copier when instructed and distribute copies as assigned.
9) Operate office equipment specific to department.
10) Operate pneumatic tube system as directed.
11) Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Volunteers are required to attend orientation and training from the Volunteer Office. Orientation to the Cancer Center is done by a staff member. The area is also responsible for completing a Department Orientation Form to be placed in the volunteer’s file located in Volunteer Services. Volunteer shifts are during Cancer Center hours of operation. Regulation volunteer uniform and QMC name tag. Sign in/out through the Volunteer Services office.
