Winter Solstice Volunteer Planting

Hawaii Environmental Restoration

Description

H.E.R. Spring Equinox Volunteer Planting Event!

Hawai‘i Environmental Restoration brings nearly 12 years of continuous experience restoring Keauʻohana State Forest Reserve, Hawaiʻi’s most intact native lowland wet forest below 1,000 feet. HER integrates invasive species control, native and endangered species outplanting, and community education.

During these Quarterly Events, if conditions are moist, volunteers most often conduct outplanting from a variety of native plant species. Invasive species control is alternatively conducted when conditions are too dry for seedling success.

We encourage you to view HER 6 minutes Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cmwOBkNbNE&t=5s as it offers a good overview and beginning orientation. You may also want to glimpse our blog https://hawaiienvironmentalrestoration.org/blog/ for an account of HER past events and activities.

Site Parking is located at the junction of Highway 130 and Upper Puna Rd, between mile markers 16-17, between Pahoa and Kalapana, above Black Sands Subdivision.
