Ongoing Position
Change a teen's life one wave at a time with Surfrider Spirit Sessions
Surfrider Spirit Sessions
Description
Make a difference in the life of Hawaii youth and become a surf mentor.
During sessions, mentors act as “Surf Buddies,” coaching youth in the water, cheering them on, and offering assistance AND participate alongside their mentees in group activities like yoga, mini lessons in Hawaiian culture and more fun things. Spirit Sessions staff members and instructors conduct surf lessons and are also in the water offering support to mentors and youth.
How YOU make an impact:
• Hang out, listen, and support your mentee
• Go surfing, be a cheerleader, and have FUN with your mentee
• Help your mentee journal their experiences
• Offer your healthy perspective and life-skills wisdom 1:1 and in talk circles
• Share your mana'o (knowledge) and be a healthy role model for all kids
• Eat free lunch every Saturday with your mentee :)
This is a recurring volunteer position:
You will be expected to attend an initial Mentor Orientation + be paired with a mentee to work together with 1:1 for the duration of sessions.

**Please note: We understand that life happens, so if you have to miss 1 (up to 2) Saturdays, just let us know in advance and we will ensure your mentee still receives support during your absence. You can still be a successful mentor even if you have to miss a session.
