Become an Education Program Specialist at the Hawaiian Mission Houses!

• School Programs Development and Delivery: Onsite & Virtual (x3)
  • Learn and help to deliver onsite field trip content for grades K-12 (typically grades 3-5)
  • Review and improve existing field trip programming as a capstone project in collaboration with the school programs coordinator.
• Administrative Management (x 1)
  • Respond to phone calls and emails, manage program paperwork and track measure of success necessary for grant writing and reporting, promoting the program with important donors and partner institutions.
  • Captstone project: review and revision of existing activities/the development of new lessons and activities by school program interns.
• Social Media, Outreach and Community Relations (x1)
  • Work and determine capstone project in collaboration with HMHʻs director of marketing and communications. Design artwork and messaging used to promote HMHʻs school and volunteer programs. Meet with community stakeholders and collect feedback on existing programming, report to myself/the director of education. Deliver recommendations for the review and revision of existing activities/the development of new lessons and activities by school program interns. 
• School Programs Development and Delivery: Offsite (x1)
  • This would be a new offering that we are currently unable to support and would require the intern to have a mode of transportation. The volunteer in this position would travel to various schools and deliver content at the school itself.
  • They would also review and improve existing field trip programming as a capstone project.

* Volunteers must be able to commit to at least 20 hours of service. 

* Interns with capstone projects must be able to commit to 60 or more hours over a minimum of 3 months. To put this in perspective, if your internship term is 3 months, this is less than 4 hours a week (and in many cases the work can be done remotely). 

* We are flexible and work with volunteer and interns' schedules as to what days and times work best for them, though there are some limits to this when it comes to school programs supporting field trips (Tues-Fri, typically 8-12 AM). 

* When able, we are willing to be flexible on both the content and focus area of the capstone project for each intern, and their progress will be tracked and evaluated at regular meetings.
