Join our staff, schools, community groups, and volunteers in growing a native dryland forest on the watershed of Hāmākua Marsh State Wildlife Sanctuary. Pu’u o Ehu is home to thousands of endemic plants, including rare and endangered species such as ko’oloa’ula, loulu, ewa hinahina, ʻohai, and the Hawaiʻi state flower, mao hau hele. The work often involves removing invasive species that are encroaching on our plants, seasonal planting, and educational bird walks to learn about the native endangered wetland birds living on site. We have a core of regular volunteers as well as voluntourists. For private groups of 8 or more, we can arrange events at a time to suit your schedule. This incredible labor of love is made possible by generous donations from foundations and individuals, and thousands of volunteer hours.
Parking is available inside our chain link gate, directly next to 268 Hāmākua Drive, Kailua.

Wear covered shoes and sun protection. Long pants and sleeves recommended. Bring a water bottle. We have the rest!
All ages welcome. Children 14 and under need to be accompanied by an adult. Children under 18 need parent to sign waiver for them.
