Waipā is an intact ahupuaʻa located in Haleleʻa (North Shore), Kauaʻi. Its reach spans 1,600 acres from the peak of Māmalahoa to the western shore of Hanalei Bay. The organization and its work evolved from the activism of Hawaiian families in the early 1980ʻs to save Waipā valley from resort and golf course development. Established in 1994, The Waipā Foundation currently holds an agricultural lease through 2050 from landowner Kamehameha Schools and manages the entire ahupuaʻa as a living learning center with a myriad of programs, projects, and events.
