About Us

The Queen's Medical Center is a private, non-profit general hospital founded by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV in 1859. The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Hawaii and the Pacific Basin, and the only hospital to achieve Magnet designation. It is the only facility in the state capable of handling the most complex, life-threatening cases.

Why Volunteer at Queen's? As a Queen's volunteer, you'll quickly become part of our "Ohana " as you provide invaluable services at any one of our facilities. We've had over 100 student volunteers during the summer and an average of 300 volunteers year-round who donate their time to provide a variety of tasks that include:

• Queen Emma Way Ambassador Program: Offers meaningful social interactions with patients to reduce stress while enhancing safety, quality, and patient experience. Available only at QMC-Punchbowl and QMC-WO.
• Healing touch and Reiki
• Assisting with Wayfinding
• Pet Therapy and Music Healing
• Gift Shop
• Same Day Surgery and Surgery Center
• Emergency Department and Nursing Units
• Outpatient and Inpatient Pharmacy
• Queen Emma Clinic and Outpatient Clinics

Above are just a few examples of volunteer opportunities at Queen's. Volunteering can bring immense joy and a sense of purpose, with opportunities available to individuals of all backgrounds. To ensure a fulfilling experience, staff members will meet with volunteers to discuss their expectations and goals. For students exploring careers in healthcare, guidance will be provided to help assess whether it's a suitable path. Similarly, retirees seeking to contribute to their community can collaborate with staff to identify suitable volunteer opportunities. Together, they will determine the best course of action tailored to each individual's aspirations.
