With the Damage Assessment team, walk through an impacted area and collect and record information about damage to residential structures. This information will help to provide a full picture of the damage in impacted communities.
You will be contacted prior to your shift with directions and additional information. Please do not report to the location unless instructed. By signing up, you acknowledge that you are on standby for that shift.
American Red Cross Damage Assessment (DA) Volunteer Requirements
If you’re brand new, here’s the easiest way to understand it:
Red Cross Damage Assessment (DA) is how we check homes and neighborhoods after a disaster to figure out:
What was damaged
How badly it was damaged
Which families need help right away
When it’s safe, DA team members go into affected communities and look at specific addresses to see whether the damage meets Red Cross criteria for immediate assistance. This is one of the first steps after a tornado, flood, or similar disaster.
DA helps ensure the Red Cross can provide support quickly and fairly, based on real, documented impacts.
FEMA and other partners also use this kind of information to understand the overall scale of damage and coordinate resources across agencies.
