Join us for our monthly Community Workday!
Spend the day with Hui Maka‘āinana o Makana from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM within the beautiful Hāʻena State Park on the North Shore of Kaua‘i.
We’ll begin at 9:00 AM with introductions and our opening protocol before moving into the day’s activities. Depending on the weather and focus for the day, we may spend time in the lo‘i or ‘auwai weeding, planting, or harvesting, caring for other cultivars around the site, or visiting the makai area.
Please wear clothing you don’t mind getting wet or muddy (a bathing suit underneath is optional).
Around 12:00 PM, we’ll gather for a potluck lunch—please bring something to share if you’re able.
Volunteers of all ages and experience levels are welcome! Come with a willingness to learn, to connect with ‘āina, and to have fun as we care for this special place together.

Entry into HSP (Hāʻena State Park):
We assume you will be driving out to our site, please follow these directions Google Map.
Hawaii Residents: Stop at the Entry Checkpoint. Each person in the vehicle will need to present a valid Hawaii Driver’s License or Hawaii State ID to the attendant. Let them know you are coming to Hui Workday, and they will point out the entrance.
Non-residents: There is a $5/pp entry fee assessed by State Parks for all non-residents. Please try to secure tickets online (gohaena.com). If you are unable to do so, we may be able to assist. Please reach out to us at info@huimakaainanaomakana.org for more information.
Hui site and parking instructions:
Drive past the HSP parking lot driveway and turn right onto the gravel driveway with a red gate. (Please do not park in the HSP parking lot.)
Follow the driveway past the portable toilets and follow the dirt road all the way in. You can park in the grassy area near the makai (oceanside) hale (building), steering clear of the coned-off area. This is where we will gather at 9:00am.
Packing List: We will be working in mud, dirt, and/or water. Dress to work, with an optional bathing suit underneath (if you want to jump in the ocean after work). The following items are optional and based on possible needs.
The Hui will provide: Water jug, work gloves, and tools.
