“Lei the Way" Event: Crafting Ribbon Leis with a Local Nonprofit @ Queen Emma Summer Palace
Common Grace
Description
🌸 Join Common Grace/Malama Mentors for our first-ever “Lei the Way” Volunteer Event! 🌼
~ Who We Are:
Common Grace is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit that connects students with caring mentors from local high schools, churches, and civic groups through its Malama Mentors program. In the MM program, High School Mentors meet with students one-on-one every week on campus to build trust, encourage growth, and provide consistent support. These relationships that the teen mentors and young mentees have help students feel valued, supported, and empowered.
~ About the Event:
This volunteer event is a way to support Common Grace’s largest program - Malama Mentors - and honor the programs graduating High School mentors.
~ Volunteer Objective:
Participants in this event will craft beautiful ribbon leis that will be gifted to our graduating senior mentors.
~ Why the name "Lei the Way"?:
The name “Lei the Way” was chosen because it reflects hope for the mentors’ success and also represents how mentoring works as a two-way street, where mentors learn as much from their students as the students learn from them. When gifting these leis to our mentors, we hope they feel that the Malama Mentors program helped to "lay" (lei) the way for them to a successful life filled with more opportunities to connect and give back in their adult lives.
