Launched in 1944, the "Mighty Mo" provided gunfire support for the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. On September 2, 1945, she served as a stage for the signing of the Instruments of Surrender in Tokyo Bay, bringing WWII to and end. This day in history is remembered as the start of a new era of friendship and cooperation in the Pacific. The USS Missouri also participated in the Korean War and the Persian Gulf War.
When the USS Missouri was in commission, there were 2,500 sailors maintaining the ship. Today, there are less than 25 maintenance and engineering staff working on the ship. As a volunteer, we have a variety of opportunities available to suit your interests and skills. We know your time is valuable and hope that you choose to make a difference by supporting the mission to preserve the Battleship Missouri and share her story and place in history.
