Founded in 2008, Grow Some Good (GSG) strengthens Maui County’s community through local agriculture, food security, and access to nutritious food. Initially established to support school gardens, GSG became independent in 2012 and now partners with the County of Maui, Maui Family YMCA, and others, reaching over 20 schools and 8,000 students annually—70% from low-income households. GSG enhances environmental stewardship through regenerative agroforestry, boosting biodiversity and food output. It also delivers agricultural education to youth and communities via gardens, camps, and kits, and distributes culturally relevant, nutrient-dense food to reduce food insecurity. The organization serves disadvantaged families, especially Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, and students in Title 1 schools across Maui, Lāna‘i, and Moloka‘i. The project centers on the Nā Māla Kaiāulu food forest in Kahului, Maui, adjacent to the Maui Family YMCA, with activities spanning Maui County schools.
